About an hour ago there was a stand off in the offices of the Philippine Marines. I know that this might be a momentous moment since we all know that the Philippines is in a state of emergency, but Malacanang has asked the media to stop broadcasting the event. I don't see anything wrong with media blackout. The only thing that the media brings to the whole picture is scare people anyways. It's non-stop. And they had the gall to put in the news ticker that Malacanang is asking for a news blackout. Anything to pick up the ratings.

I won't be joining the ranks of Havaianas Junkies. I wore my Havis twice. The first time, I experienced some redness on my upper left foot. I told my sister, that it felt the same as if I as wearing my mixstar flipflops, but worse because I have that redness. On Thursday, I wore the Havis again thinking that I probably just need to break them in. I was wrong. Not only have I experienced redness on my left foot, I had blisters on my left and right feet. The blistering was a little bad that they've not turned to scabs. O well, maybe they're really not for me. I'm returning them to my sister (Good thing we are the same size). Maybe the higher beings have decided that I don't need another addiction added to my plate.

I have found a great way to organize my flipflops. I bought a small basket at SM, lined up my flipflops in that basket. It had enough room to put in my happy feet bakya and my birks. And when I put it in the shoe rack, it only took up space for 1 shoe box. Happy happy me. My sister gave me my first pair of havaianas. She gave me black brasils. I'm not yet a full convert as I haven't even tried walking in them for hours (I only used them once and that is to try them on and walk around the house). If I like them, I will have to ask my sister for another pair. Yes, I still think they are glorified flipflops and I am not willing to shell out Php800 just to have another one. Yes, I am that cheap when it comes to flipflops. Shoes and sandals, that's another matter.

When I was still single, the only thing that I knew how to cook is chicken adobo. And even if I knew how to cook it, I still need our yaya around just to guide me as to when to check if the adobo is ready or not. Who would have thought that being married would make me like the kitchen more and more? Last night, I cooked Almondigas. I didn't know that it was DA POGI's favorite soup. All I knew was that he asked for it and that I did my best to cook it. And cook it well I did. I think I did well enough that my husband polished off the rice in the rice cooker and is still asking if we can have the leftovers tonight. I think it's a little on the salty side (was trying to balance the taste because I couldn't taste anything at the beginning, only to find out that I put too much patis.) but it was easily fixed by adding broth. I'm still waiting to be challenged. I know that I can never top my mom's kare kare. I have to look for my "specialty". Maybe I could try out that kaldereta recipe that J sent me.

Thoughts often wander in the wee hours of the morning. Thoughts are often bothersome in the wee hours in the morning. I hate thinking when I need to wake up for work in 2 hours.

Lesson for the day: No matter how hard a person tries to be diplomatic, it won't matter if the person you are talking to is not in the same wavelength.

DA POGI and I had an american dinner last night and it was a success. It made me realize how much I love preparing meals. :) I made hamburger steaks with mashed potatoes and gravy. DA POGI, being Pinoy that he is, wanted rice but when he saw the mashed potatoes, changed his mind. Mind you, I made the hamburger steaks. The mashed potatoes are real potatoes and not the powder kind. Well, I cheated on the gravy, but I still boiled the water for it! :D I listed the ingredients below for some who might be interested (and also for me to remember). :D The recipe is good for 4 people. We weren't able to cook all of the patties, therefore, tomorrow might be hamburger steak day. Hamburger steak (Good for 4) 1/4k lean ground beef 1/4k lean ground pork 2 slices of ham, chopped finely 1 big green bell pepper, chopped finely 1 medium sized onion, chopped finely salt and pepper to taste 2 eggs (for binding) 1/4 cup all purpose flour (for binding) Just mix all ingredients in a bowl, then make burger patties. Fry the patties to your liking. Mashed Potatoes (Good for 4) 8 medium sized potatoes one stick of butter salt and pepper to taste Boil potatoes in water with salt. To test if done, poke the potatoes with a fork. If it goes through without any resistance, then it's ready. I peel my potatoes after I boil them, one of my friends, peels hers before boiling, so it's your preference. You can also leave the skins if you want. Mash potatoes, adding butter as you go along. Season with salt and pepper. For the gravy, I used McCormick Beef and Herb Gravy. :) Just add one packet to 1 cup boiling water.

I wouldn't say that the volleyball practice was a "smashing" success. We played with another team within the company and they got bored with us. Most of the girls in our team are beginners, some with very good passing, setting skills, but none that you can consider a tosser or a spiker. My service leaves more to be desired. At one point, one of the boys who joined us for practice told me to start eating rice again (I've shunned white rice. It's been 7 months now). It seems that I lacked steam to complete sets. On a good note, I have seen great improvements with my teammates. Two of them are actually good stoppers and setters now. One has vastly improved in her service. Tomorrow is volleyball practice again. I will be practicing my service and, hopefully, my tossing. Team captain seems to think that it might be a good idea if I, and the other tall girl, practice on tossing and spiking. I just wish that I can jump high enough to do blocks. Kinacareer na talaga to.

I sympathize with people who have lost their family due to the stampede in Ultra last Saturday. We were on our way to L's house that day and as soon as Bomb sat down in the car, she told us to turn on the radio. It's quite saddening to hear how many people died just to get into Ultra. However, I really can't quite understand why the need for a fact finding committee. Does the government have enough money to fund these? In one interview, they asked a woman, why she was still hanging around. And she said that she was still there because she wanted to get in. She doesn't have money for the ride back home. I found that funny. She had money to go to Ultra, but no money to go back home. What if she wasn't one of the lucky ones who gets money, how will she go home? Why do they have to give away money so easily that people are now thinking that this is the easiest way to get money. Some people have camped out since Monday just to get in. Why did they while their way sitting there doing nothing and not looking for jobs? I know that its hard to get jobs in the Philippines, but I'm sure you won't find jobs while sitting and waiting for Saturday to come. The problem I think is that people want to hit the big jackpot. Money does not grow on trees, and even if they do grow on trees, you need to be hardworking enough to harvest them. Unless you'll do a Juan Tamad. Why does everything have to be one time big time? I remember my mom saying that when money is not hard earned, it's usually easy to spend. Maybe next time instead of giving away millions, they give away jobs. Let's just see if people will still line up for that.

Since Emmany and Bespren have done it, I'll just be sheep and do it also. Here's my name analysis from Kabalarians.

  • Your first name creates a dual nature in that you can be very generous and understanding, but you can also be candid in your expression that you create misunderstanding. (Sabi ko na nga ba schizo ako, dual personality daw.)
  • You struggle with the requirement to soften your expression with tact and diplomacy and to consider the feelings of others. (Struggle, HOW TRUE!)
  • Difficulty in accepting advice or admitting you may have made a mistake causes you to appear stubborn and set in your ways. Thus, you have too often created the wrong impression, and friendships have suffered. (True yang sa I've created the wrong impression. Sabi ko nga, to know me is to love me.)
  • Even though your name creates the urge to be artistically creative and original, we emphasize that it causes an emotional intensity that is hard to control. (Emotional naman talaga ako. pero i don't think it's hard to control. or is it?)
  • This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses in the nervous system, and tension or accidents to the head. (Ang sakit na pwede nervous breakdown?!)
