I decided not to buy an iPod.
Not that I would use the money to buy shoes, but more of using the money for a more useful endeavor. Like say, additional dough for downpayment for a house. Sure it's not that much, but every centavo counts, right?
Ever since I started working for the company, I've always had one big purchase a year.
During my first year, I bought a watch that is more than Php5000. I originally wanted to get myself a Tag Heuer but finances were a little tight that year. So I got a Fossil look alike of the Alter Ego series and I still use the watch up to this day.
On my second year, I bought a DVD player. It's not one of those DVD players that you see sold in Makati Cinema Square. It's branded and cost an arm and a leg. I left this at my parent's house when I got married.
On my third year, I bought myself a digital camera. It was one of the most expensive cameras then. Now, it's just half the value of what it used to be.
On my fourth year, I bought a Palm Tungsten E. I was practically drooling when the new line of Tungstens came out and just had to buy one for myself. And buy I did. I don't think I'm using it to the fullest, but another round of reorganization will keep me happy. I think.
Now in my fifth year, I was thinking of buying an iPod. I often ask myself, I have been working for 5 years now and what have I to show for? Bespren and Pau bought cars. DA POGI has been paying for his car for 3 years now. I don't have that one big purchase yet. Something to really make my knees tremble from fright or excitement over the prospect of having this one great thing that I can own for years. Bespren would often tell me that having my dream wedding without any financial help from parents is already something to show for but I know in my heart I can still do more.
So in my fifth year, I am hoping to buy a piece of property that DA POGI and I can call our own. I would have to start dreaming big.
Goodbye, iPod.
