I watched Mano Po last weekend and I didn't quite get the MMFF judges decision to make this the best film of the festival. For one, Ara Mina's acting sucks, and Maricel Soriano was being Maricel Soriano. Kris Aquino was quite an improvement as compared to her massacre movies acting. Tirso Cruz is perpetually scowling. I know that Regal wants to put in as much star power as possible but, Amy Austria as Maricel Soriano's aunt??? Give me a break! I didn't know that Richard Gomez was a part of the movie. If I knew, I wouldn't watch it. I hate Richard Gomez. Ever since he married Lucy Torres he's been parading around town like they are some kind of royalty. I used to like him, but started to hate him when he said that Alma Moreno should be thankful that Joey Marquez married her even with the baggage that she carries. How chauvinistic is that? I hated it when they started to show flashbacks if Eddie Garcia's character. Sure, Cogie Domingo is cute but his acting sucks. I hate it when he spews out lines in his Chinese Filipino. It sounds like he's mentally stunted. One redeeming value, Jay Manalo's character and Boots Anson Roa. They are not the main characters in this movie but their characters moved me. Not as much as the way Vilma Santos's Amanda Bartolome moved me, but it's still moving. Dekada 70 should've earned the best picture nod. At least it's not trying hard to put in some political relevance into the movie. And, what is with Ara Mina's butt crack?
